This Fall I’m taking a Relief Print class. And despite my dodgy printmaking record, I’m looking forward to it!
I’ve always loved the the look of relief prints. Something about them reminds of tombstone carvings. I also enjoy the process of making relief prints: sharp tools, slicing and gouging away at the surface of a material, until what’s left leaves you with something substratal, gritty, almost primeval, and ultimately beautiful.
At least that’s the hope! I’ll be posting some relief print inspiration soon. If you have a great example of relief prints, please post a link in the comments.
